"Time Marches On!"

Berks Sinfonietta is thrilled to announce their upcoming concert titled "Time Marches On," featuring three remarkable classical compositions that have left a lasting impact on the world of music. The concert will take place at Atonement Lutheran Church on January 13, 2024, at 7:30pm. In the event of snow, the performance will be the following day, January 14th at 4:00pm.

The program includes Joseph Haydn's Symphony #101, "The Clock," which showcases Haydn's creativity and influence on symphonic composition. This timeless symphony has been prominently featured in films such as "Amadeus" and "The Truman Show," as well as TV series including "The Simpsons" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm." Its lively melody and recognizable ticking sound have also made it a popular choice to convey elegance and tradition.

Emilie Mayer's Overture #2 in D Major, composed in 1850, is a significant work by a female composer that deserves wider recognition. This powerful composition, influenced by Classical, Romantic, and folk music styles, was met with critical acclaim upon its public performance. While not yet discovered by the motion picture industry, this overture could find a place in historical dramas or even advertisements seeking excitement and anticipation.

The Concert for Two Cellos and Orchestra by Ovidiu Marinescu is a hidden gem in the world of classical music. This unique piece highlights the cello through a musical conversation between two cellos and the orchestra. Its catchy melodies and accessible interplay make it enjoyable for any audience. While not commonly found in movies or television programs, it serves as a special surprise when encountered in these mediums. This will be the work’s local premiere, with its composer serving as one of the soloists.

Berks Sinfonietta invites classical music enthusiasts, film and TV buffs, and those seeking a memorable musical experience to join them at Atonement Lutheran Church for the "Time Marches On" concert. This is a rare opportunity to witness the beauty and impact of these classical compositions, as well as their connections to American popular culture.
